Streets of Brooklyn, New York City
This forum is locked: you cannot post, reply to, or edit topics. The Neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights
Brooklyn Heights boasts the greatest views of lower Manhattan and brownstone mansions that rival anything on Fifth Avenue. Considered to be the first suburb in America, the Brooklyn Heights of today is much more than a suburb. It has become one of the most desirable neighborhoods for Manhattanites ready to raise a family. It is a Manhattan neighborhood, located on the better side of the river. Controlled by:

No new posts The Neighborhood Brighton Beach
Brighton Beach was redeveloped as a fairly dense residential community with the final rebuilding of the Brighton Beach railway into a modern rapid transit line of the New York City Subway system c.1920. The community now has a large community of primarily Russophobe immigrants who left what was the Soviet Union in 1980s and 1990s. The majority of these immigrants are Jewish, however, living in the USSR has made them in many ways culturally distinct from the Jewish immigrants that moved to the neighborhood decades earlier from Tsarist Russia. Brighton Beach has been dubbed "Little Odessa" by Russians and is allegedly the home of the Russian Mafia in the United States Controlled by: Reservoir Dogs

Streets of Manhatten, New York City
No new posts The Neighborhood of Little Italy
The heart of Little Italy is Mulberry Street. In the second half of the 19th century, NYC's Italian immigration reached its peak, with several Italian parishes and an Italian-language newspaper. Today, there are fewer than 5,000 Italians living in Little Italy, but the heavenly aromas of the Italian bakeries and restaurants still waft around Mulberry and Grand Streets. The filmmaker Martin Scorsese shot the classic Mean Streets in this neighborhood, but today it couldn't be friendlier or safer! To the untrained eye, La Cosa Nostra activity is still very strong in this area of New York; today’s gangsters have just learned to hide it better. Controlled by: Gambino Family

This forum is locked: you cannot post, reply to, or edit topics. The Neighborhood of Downtown Manhattan
Interesting Facts- Downtown Manhattan, also know as Lower Manhattan was our nations first capital. In one of history's most famous real estate deals, Dutch traders purportedly purchased the island of "Man-a-hatt-a" from the Algonquin Indians in 1621 for $24 worth of beads and other trinkets. Manhattan is the largest central business district in the United States. From the latter half of the 1960s through most of the 1970s, Manhattan suffered from urban flight as the middle-class fled to the outer boroughs and suburbs due to an increase in crime. No new posts The Neighborhood of Harlem
A Mecca for African-American culture and life for more than a century, Harlem started out as Nieuw Haarlem, a prosperous Dutch farming settlement. By the turn of the 20th century, black New Yorkers started moving uptown into Harlem's apartment buildings and town houses. The neighborhood prospered and by the 1920s, Harlem had become the most famous black community in the United States, perhaps in the whole world. The Harlem Renaissance, generally regarded as occurring between 1919 and 1929, was Harlem's golden era, when local writers such as Zora Neale Hurston, W.E.B. Dubois, Langston Hughes, and Ralph Ellison achieved literary recognition. Controlled by: Reservoir Dogs

No new posts The Neighborhood of Long Island City
Long Island City, New York, often abbreviated L.I.C., is in the Queens borough of New York City. It was created in 1870 from the communities of Astoria, Hunters Point, Blissville, Ravenswood, Dutch Kills and Bowery Bay. It is located in the northwest part of Long Island, adjoining the east bank of the East River. Locals now use the term only for the area south of Astoria. Long Island City surrendered its independence in 1898 to become part of New York City. However, Long Island City is still one of the four main post offices in Queens. It is also the eastern terminus of the Queensboro Bridge, also known as the 59th Street Bridge, which is the only non-toll automotive route connecting Queens and Manhattan. Streets of Chicago, Illinois
No new posts The Neighborhood of Loop
The Loop is what locals call the downtown neighborhood of Chicago. It is the second largest downtown business district in the United States, after Midtown Manhattan. Bounded on the west and north by the Chicago River, on the east by Lake Michigan, and on the south by Roosevelt Road, the lack of space shaped an architectural style dominated by high-rises. Notable buildings include the Home Insurance Building, considered the first skyscraper, to the Sears Tower, the tallest in the United States. Some of the historic buildings in this district were instrumental in the development of high-rises. Controlled by: Santorio Family

Fun in the sun. Today the South Beach section of Miami Beach is a major entertainment destination with hundreds of nightclubs, restaurants and ocean-front hotels. The area is popular with international tourists as well, with German being the third most spoken language after English and Spanish. The large number of European tourists contribute to why South Beach is one of the few public beaches in the United States where topless sunbathing is common. Controlled by:

Streets of Las Vegas, Nevada
No new posts The Las Vegas Strip
Nevada was the first state to legalize casino-style gambling, but not before it reluctantly was the last western state to outlaw gaming in the first decade of the 20th Century. At midnight, Oct. 1, 1910, a strict anti-gambling law became effective in Nevada. It even forbids the western custom of flipping a coin for the price of a drink. By far the most celebrated of the early resorts was the Flamingo Hotel, built by mobster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, a member of the Meyer Lansky crime organization. The Flamingo with a giant pink neon sign and replicas of pink flamingos on the lawn, opened on New Year's Eve 1946. Architectural plans included razing the outmoded, motel-style buildings at the rear of the property, dooming the fortress-like "Bugsy Suite" and bullet proof office used by the gangster before his death in 1946. Six months later, Siegel was murdered by an unknown gunman who fired a shotgun blast as Siegel sat in the living room of the Beverly Hills, Calif., home of his girlfriend, Virginia Hill. Streets of Los Angeles, California
No new posts Compton
The City of Compton is a ten square mile city with a population of 100,000, which lies in the heart of Los Angeles. In the last 30 years, this city has seen radical racial shifts from predominately white to black, then Hispanic. Compton is bordered on the south by Long Beach, and to the north is Watts, commonly referred to as South Central L.A. Due to the Watts riots in 1967, the white population began moving out and the black population began moving in. With the rise of racial awareness and racial pride in the late 1960s the rise of the Bloods happened. The Bloods were made as a group who wanted to foster Black Awareness and Black Intellectualism, but then came drugs and the money that could be gained from them. Some of the Bloods went into Ganglife to gain their money from the streets. Then in 1972 came the rise of the Crips a Gang who were a true gang who wanted to control the streets without any high minded views of Black Culture. The war between the Bloods and the Crips lasted in 1995. In 1998 began a Draconian system of Law Enforcement to end its gang killing problem. In 2005 this system ended and Bloods and Crips that cared fought Mexican Gangs like M13. Now Compton is becoming more and dangerous as it used to be in 1980s. Controlled by:
