The Bronx
This borough at the northernmost tip of the city and the only one attached to the mainland (Manhattan and Staten Island are each islands and Queens and Brooklyn are part of Long Island) has more parkland than any of the other boroughs, a renowned botanical garden, a world-famous zoo, stately mansions, historic sites, a Little Italy, beaches, even an island reminiscent of a New England fishing village. The Bronx also has a very high hispanic population. However it's not all rosy: symbolic with urban decay and violence The Bronx still harbours criminals and, like any other borough, is a potential source of income for any aspiring player in the underworld.

Brooklyn
The 'Home to Everyone From Everywhere!' Brooklyn is considered New York City's most popular borough with approximately 2.5 million residents. Before its consolidation with New York in 1898, Brooklyn was an independent city and was dubbed the 'City of Trees', the 'City of Homes' and the 'City of Churches'. To this day Brooklyn holds a distinct character of its own, despite its consolidation with New York. Like the rest of the densely populated New York City, Brooklyn's population salad bowl of blacks, whites, Hispanics, Asians and Europeans amongst other groups. Powerful people have called this place home. You wouldn't want to disappoint them, would you?

Manhattan
Referred to as 'The City' by residents of the other four boroughs, Manhattan is the commercial, cultural and financial center of New York City. It is also the headquarters of the United Nations and the seat of city government. Manhattan is home to many famous landmarks, tourist attractions, museums, universities and has the largest central business district in the United States. Manhattan is also the site of most of the city's corporate headquarters and the New York Stock Exchange. This borough has history. It has been the scene of many important American cultural movements. Don't bother coming unless you're willing to create a little history for yourself.

Queens
Residents of Queens have been known to identify more with their neighborhood than with the borough as a whole. Howard Beach and Middle Village are home to large Italian-American populations, Rockaway Beach has a large Irish-American population, Astoria, in the northwest, is traditionally home to one of the largest Greek populations outside of Greece, and is home to a growing population of young professionals from Manhattan. Maspeth is home to many European immigrants, including a large Polish population. Several large companies have their headquarters in Queens. But for every Queen there is a King - are you up for the job?

Staten Island
Situated on an island of the same name that is the most geographically separate of the city's boroughs, Staten Island is the least populated of the five boroughs. With a population of about 465,000, Staten Island is often called 'the forgotten borough' or 'the step-sister borough', as it is much less well-known than its four sisters and is primarily suburban. Staten Island is also known for the Fresh Kills Landfill, the repository of garbage from all of New York City for 53 years. The landfill was closed in 2001, and there is an ongoing attempt to decontaminate the land and rehabilitate it for recreational uses. Although seemingly an unusual place to begin a criminal empire, Staten Island does have its positives in a path to power.
